Windows Live Domain

Friday, August 31st, 2007

Few months back, I was able to register for @live.com email address for myself.

Sadly, it was discovered (the hack) and rectified. Fortunately, accounts created will not be deleted.

These @live.com domains won’t go live soon. As per the news source, it’s still a few months away. Before the launch, there will be a campaign and you all will be made aware of the same. So hang in there :-)

New Webmaster Portal and Private Beta Invite

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

Creatively named Webmaster Portal, it will be a single, friendly place to find all tools and information relating to Live Search SEO. Initially we?ll support these scenarios:

  • Troubleshooting tools to ensure MSNBot is effectively crawling and indexing your site
  • Sitemap creation, submission and ping tools
  • Statistics about your website
  • Consolidation of content submission resources
  • New content and community resources

While we expect the tools to be available publicly in late Fall, we still have some polishing to do.  In the meantime we?ve created a private beta program to let adventuresome folks get their hands on the tools sooner ? and help polish things by providing feedback. If you?re interested in participating in the beta program over the next few months, please send a mail to lswmp@microsoft.com to apply!

RIP: AutoPatcher

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

NEOWIN:

I had a call from Microsoft Legal this morning and they have told me that we are no longer allowed to endorse AutoPatcher on Neowin.
Microsoft will only allow updates to be downloaded from its own servers.
AutoPatcher started in 2003 and has been redistributed in some of the worlds best computer magazine cover CD/DVD’s. I have no explanation for why Microsoft allowed it to continue unchecked for 4 years before making this decision.
I asked the representative if Windows Genuine Advantage had anything to do with it and he categorically told me this was not the case, he added that Windows Update for pre-Vista versions of Windows can now be accessed using Firefox and that the concern at Microsoft had more to do with the possible malicious code that could be redistributed with certified Microsoft updates.
We have no grounds to challenge the decision by Microsoft.
I’d like to thank the whole AutoPatcher team for their continued work, unfortunately none of the team is online, but they have been contacted via the AutoPatcher.com website by Microsoft Legal.
The AutoPatcher forums on Neowin have been disabled for guests and members.

XP Hack: Readyboost with any USB Device

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

Just as you can hack Vista registry to take advantage of Vista ReadyBoost feature, you can use this simple guide to ‘activate’ ReadyBoost like features in Windows XP as well.

Right click on My Computer, go to Properties, and then navigate to the Advanced or Performance tab.
After you have reached this point, follow the images below.

Once you have reached the screen above, select your flask drive, and add it to your virtual memory (paging size is up to you).

*It is recommend making a partition just for file swaping (if using a hard drive instead of a flask drive), so that system fragmentation won?t force the swap file to fragment as well.
