How to get Windows Vista?

by

This is 3rd in the series of Getting Started With Vista Series. Lets look at how you can get Windows Vista. So you want a free copy?

1. Buy a new Vista Capable PC with Windows XP from any major hardware vendor like Dell, HP and you’ll get a coupon for a free upgrade to Windows Vista. To qualify for the Vista upgrade coupons plan, you are required to purchase a Windows XP computer between October 26 and March 15, 2007. Most of the major computer vendors are covered in the plan including Dell, Sony, Toshiba, HP, Gateway and Fujitsu.

2. Nominate yourself or ask a friend to nominate you for the Microsoft MVP program - they will consider the request only if you have made some decent contributions to the tech community (not necessarily Microsoft) in the last few months. As an MVP, you get loads of Microsoft software including free licenses of Microsoft Office 2007 Ultimate and Windows Vista Premium.

If both of the above options don’t apply to you then the following are available for you.

  • Windows Vista Family Discount

Purchase the Windows Vista Ultimate retail boxed product, and you can upgrade up to two additional PCs in your household to Windows Vista Home Premium for only $49.99

To Qualify

You may take advantage of the Windows Vista Family Discount to order upgrade licenses for Windows Vista Home Premium for up to two household PCs if you

1.Purchased a retail boxed product of Windows Vista Ultimate for a PC in your home.

2.Have one or two additional PCs in your household you would like to upgrade to Windows Vista Home Premium.

3.Your additional household PCs capable of running Windows Vista.

4.Your additional household PCs currently running licensed software for Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional, or Windows Vista?

If your PCs are currently running a licensed copy of Windows XP, Windows 2000 Professional, or Windows Vista, they qualify for an upgrade license to Windows Vista Home Premium.

The Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor will help you to determine if your Windows XP-based PC can run Windows Vista.
